23-23-23

These series of 23 things has taken me on a technology tour. I have not only learned about how computer work but also about patrons and their needs in the library.I have become more open to clicking on links, I once thought or unuseful and SCARY. The connection to computers and patrons and networking is an effictive way libraries expands towards the community!!!
I have done tons of reading and learing, this was very challenging and exciting too.
I came into this not knowing how to turn on a computer and am ending with a basic knowledge about social networking ,blogs and instant messaging- all very COOL STUFF

THING 22

The library I work for is small but growing rapidly...
I have observed patrons who almost always use TWITTER and FACE BOOK and MY SPACE, which is the most common among the young pepole. When it comes to children the like to view game sites like DISNEY.com, they are entertained all day. For the older bunch its alot harder for them if they are not too computer savy, they ask frequent quetions about documents being noterized on WORD and how do I check my emails???

tHiNg....21

Podcast is neat in the ways that allow tours of libraries and storytelling!!!
I like how it allows you to edit your voice before posting.
It could become a required thing for new members to have to listen to rules of the library before reciving thier cards.I feel like kids are not taught by thier parents how to properly behave in a library and I think the podcast could be benifical to librarians who constanly have to repeat the rules...NO RUNNING.....NO DRINKS.....NO CELL PHONES....NO SPANKING....NO TEARING PAGES OUT....NO PLAYING HIDE -N- GO -SEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU u YOU T_U_B_E

I like u tube...a person can get stuck watching all the videos and short shows!!!

I think U tube can help the library in many ways.

For one, I feel it's terribly hard to get young people to focus on one thing for a long period of time.On u tube it would be easy to give reviews on current materails and new items on shelf.
There could be a breif recording in the library about the newest book and a brief summary.I think this would inspire young people to visit thier local libraries more frequently and check out items.

%%%THING^^^19~~~

I'm not to fimilar with microsoft office.I like the idea of by passing the need to have to purchase software and the time it takes to load to the computer.
-FREE is my fravorite word
I plan to have my own business one day so I feel google doc can benifit me tremendously.

THING 18------- WIKI***

One of the topics I searched was climate change...it was intresting when i checked the history on the article that showed up!!!
The information given was very opinionative but I found it useful .
I'm still alil' confused how this applys to the library directly... it was fun though and I liked this better than Thing17~

LIBWORM*17

Thing 17 is uploaded with tons of information.
I rate its quality at a medium level,I picked topics like:
Harry Potter,Roses and Obama!!!
I read that Lib worm only returns results that come from select RSS feeds that focus on libraries and related topics but when searching the word Obama the first two articles applied to him directly, and as I continued to read I came across plenty of post that had nothing to do with Obama what so ever or libraries. For example I learned that JESSICA BEIL is a more sought out celebrity, acquiring a higher rank than Obama or Michell.

*16*

Library thing is awesome and fun!!!
I added books by Danielle Steel and Joel Osteen.
I'm really not to interested in the social aspect of Library thing
but it is interesting to read other people's thoughts on books I like and don't like.

I find it to be a vital part of understanding a readers interest, so that the libraries can make proper orders on books and other items.Library thing.com makes it easy to keep up with items that I like and items that patrons are reading.Library thing.com is a good way of learning about new and different authors, its important to put books in the system that people can really learn from and enjoy.

DIGG THIS- THING 15

The word D-I-G-G reminds me of a mole rat in the dirt making his next hole to hide from the sun...
Digg changes the way people consume information online. It provides alternative means to keep up with current events. It allows its user to easily view and blog about videos news and images sumitted by the community. I like how Digg trys to promote jobs online in a postive fashion but i dont think its good how the system only works when users actively participate. This takes up alot of time,I dont have!!!
DEL*ICI*OUS -14-
Bookmarking can be effective and quick, it also easy to learn.
I don't have that many favorites and therefore Delicious is not that useful.
I placed book marks on myspace and facebook!!!!

thing 13

Tagging seems confusing to me.........
I can see how it would be helpful for librarians, but probably not necessary for the patrons.
Anything that eliminates folders is music to my ears.Everyday we fill out any were from 10-20 new patron applications and its hard to keep adults and juvenile separate.I prefer too keep them separate because it easier to look up.If I could utilize tagging in our system I would tagg the words Juvenile and Adults, this would be less time consuming and less paper work to sort.

thing 12

Today I began my twitter journey,
In many ways it reminds me of face book,
Am starting to understand that these are simple ways for pepole to socialized
Its all a little too much for me-I would consider myself anti/social
Twitter/Face book its fun ,but highly over rated
my user name is: ELZUBIA-come and find me

Using instant messaging is kind of like speaking in a new language. I understand the need for speed and of course time is always an issue, but instant messaging is more of a hassle than it is useful. I don't have many contacts because am not always on line. When I chat I like to do it in person.Instant Messaging is an excellent tool for people who live in different time zones and work on opposite schedules.

#TEN

23 things has introduced many forms of building social networks... face book, my space, and Ning. All three basically help people become more social. I can count on one hand my real friends, I feel facebook, my space, and ning are a little over rated!

There is positives and negitives to everything-I will try to keep in open mind to all this new age, fast changing tecnology, but i just dont understand why anybody would need so many friends.

thing*NINE*

The more I became familiar with face book , the more it began to grow on me!!!
I started meeting new friends and chatting with old ones, some of my old school mates don't have a my space, so I was able to speak to them again.

Creating an elaborate profile still scares me a little. Its like the more info you put out, the easier it is for people to get a hold of you ,even if its someone you don't want to find you.

I found myself becoming a fan with organizations I never thought to look into. I have to admit that after this, I got hooked.

THING 8

I've heard many negative and positive things about facebook, personally I think its a fun way to build relationship on line.Facebook has become my dirty little habit like smoking or drinking. Its an addiction I dont ever want to break. Its the first thing I log into-dont tell my boss and the last think I click on before the day is over.I am glad to have become more fimilar with Facebook because its a frequent website visted by most of our patrons.I dont see a connection to the library or staff.
Facebook is just a fun way to meet and mingle with a group of new folks !!!
I LOVE FACEBOOK

THING SeVeN

I will have fun looking for whats fast and new. Its more convenient to use RSS to update my blogs and keeping up with the forever changing web, especially when the information is coming to me instead of searching for it!!!!!!!!
Its important for library staff to stay updated with the quickest and best resources. Its a tad confusing how RSS Feeds are formatted and transmitted, but I was able to find it and add it my reader. It was fun sharing and posting Blogs***

THING SIX

I could see how helpful using Google Reader can be, how much more easier it is to visit one website, than many different sites. It is less time consuming and efficient.Blog Reader provides an effortless way to get information from a variety of sources.Blog Reader is essential to all Libraries when creating folders to better organize subscriptions.

Thing #5

I used the comic strip web site. It was cool discovering the exciting ways to manipulate images!

Thing #4

Using Flicker is easy and fun. I thought its was neat how it gave options to transform the picture. It gave the picture different meaning and almost changed the whole entire picture it self.

I like how Flicker made
my regular beautiful
picture become a
hand beaded work of art!

Flicker experience

Using the Flicker for the first time was interesting and fun. It became difficult to choose from all the beautiful photos. The selection was limited but over all showed very unique pictures. My first favorite was the two wild mustangs hugging, I thought it was a sweet embrace of two friends. The second photo I chose for my page was a colorful exotic picture of an Arabic dancer, I believe people forget to hear the music beating inside the heart. The third picture displayed the power of nature and God, the photographer did an excellent job of capturing a mystic mood of awe. I like Flicker because it offers a different approach to finding neat photos!!!

We are web !!!

I decided to read and view the video; Think _library 2.0 as you watch this.html

Technology is stealing the spot light away from reading materials.Understanding how technology works and how it effects the Library is a valuable asset to the community and its patrons.Because the Web is more important than ever , it is imperative that this technology becomes easily accessed and understood by all library personal. Michael Wes ch ,the assistant professor of cultural Anthropology ,states in his article that; We are the Web. I agree, that as the mind becomes more familiar with technology, the process of thought evolves; it begins to store information and load data like a computer. In essence we become the machine and the library becomes the place to surf the web or rent DVDs. Technology has many more positive effects on society than negative, but I feel like computers and media ought to have less importance than books in all libraries.
